Comprehensive Eye Exams

At Eye Physicians and Surgeons, we recommend comprehensive eye examinations annually for all adults aged 50 and over. If you wear contacts or glasses, have certain eye conditions, or are at high risk for eye disease, you may need annual exams at a younger age.

What to Expect

New or established patients will start by updating paperwork.  Then our technicians or the doctor will review your medical and ocular history and take some initial measurements of your vision.  Most comprehensive exams include the following:

  • Visual acuity test
  • Measurement of the peripheral vision, pupil reaction, eye movements, and eye teaming
  • Intraocular pressure check to screen for glaucoma
  • Slit lamp examination of the front surface of the eye
  • Dilated exam to check the internal health of the eye (the retina, macula, and optic nerve).
